What better way to start a blog than with a trip to a gallery. On Saturday 5th, a friend and I went to see the Sickert in Dieppe exhibition at the Pallant Gallery in Chichester. Also on exhibition were Kenneth Rowntree and the St Ives Modernists. The Sickert in Dieppe was a chronology of his paintings from the late 1800's to his death in 1942. It was fascinating to see the way he depicted Dieppe, how he developed his use of light and how his style changed over the years . I have never really been a Sickert fan but I did love the way he captured mood in his paintings. Kenneth Rowntree was also interesting and his war time paintings were particularly evocative of the bleakness of that time. The St Ives Modernist exhibition was a bit bland and didn't really speak of Cornwall. Worth going to see on the whole and we nipped into Seasalt on the way home which definitely does speak of Cornwall.
